Scindapsus, often sold as satin pothos or silver pothos, is loved for its velvety silver-splashed leaves. It is forgiving, fast-growing and perfect for shelves and hanging baskets.

Light
Medium to bright indirect light keeps the silver patterns vivid. In low light the plant survives, but growth slows and the leaves turn plain green.
Watering
Let the top half of the soil dry before watering. Scindapsus stores water in its leaves, so it handles short dry spells better than too much water.
Soil and pot
Use a light, well-draining mix of potting soil, perlite and bark. A pot with drainage holes is a must.
Humidity and temperature
Average humidity is fine. Keep it warm, between 18 and 27 degrees Celsius, and away from cold drafts.
Propagation
Cut below a node, remove the lowest leaf and root the cutting in water or moist sphagnum moss. Roots appear in 2 to 3 weeks.
Common problems
- Curling leaves: the plant is thirsty
- Black, mushy stems: overwatering
- Faded variegation: not enough light
